June 18th, 2007 | House in Europe
I just got back from Europe where I traveled to Rome, Florance, Venice, Madrid, Ibiza, Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam, and London. What an experience!!! I found that progressive, hard house, minimal, and trance seem to be much more popular than deep house out there. However, there certainly is a place for deep house if you know where to look and having the chance to play in Amsterdam was amazing. As you can guess, the harder beats went over better. While I did have to adjust my set a bit I still only played music that I would normally play and received a great reaction to it.

People have been asking me "Is Ibiza truly the House Music Meca they say it is?" Well, while it was great to be in Ibiza and go to Pasha, it was simply a lot like Crobar - Chicago....but we were still on an Island in Spain and that counts for a lot :)

No matter what "THEY" say, the true home of House will always be Chicago for me because we define House differently. My slogan is "If it ain't soulful, it ain't house." While electronic dance music is ALL OVER Europe, that is not saying that House Music is. By my standards, when dance music lacks a soulful element, it can no longer be defined as House and now takes on another genre such as techno, progressive, minimal, or trance.

However, there is an underground scene everywhere and just because I didn't find it doesn't mean it wasn't there. I did get over to Djoon in Paris and while most people there only spoke French, I felt right at home because we were all connected through the music.

ChicagoSoundSource.com joins Obscure Entertainment in the promotion of the FOURTH NIGHT, their already running Thursday night event. The new meeting of the minds kicks of at an all new location. On Thursday April 5th The FOURTH NIGHT re-launches at Chicago's Victor Hotel @ 311 N. Sangamon. Expect an all new experience with live acts, live art, guest DJs and headliners, something for the ladies, and of course Légo as the resident DJ.
